# Introduction

The AI Assistant answers questions about Meridian and your apps in plain language, grounded in Meridian's own documentation and your data. **Answers** is the question-and-answer side: ask, and the assistant retrieves relevant material and replies with citations you can follow.

## How Answers works

The assistant retrieves from a knowledge base (the Meridian product documentation plus your own organization and app context) and composes an answer from what it finds. Each answer comes with:

* **citations** back to the sources it used, so you can verify it,
* a relevance signal, and
* an option to escalate to human support when the assistant isn't confident.

Only content published as public is used for general answers; internal-only material stays internal. Ask about how a feature works, what a plan includes, or why something in your app behaves the way it does. Meridian MCP's `docs_search` tool uses the same public knowledge base, so an agent in Cursor or Claude Code can ground itself the same way.

### Meridian vs Shopify questions

* **Meridian product** (plans, hosting, CRM, emails, automations, Meridian SDK/CLI behaviour) is answered from the Meridian knowledge base and your org/app tools.
* **Shopify platform** questions (Admin API, GraphQL, webhooks, Polaris, themes) use Shopify's official developer docs tools when that path is enabled, not Meridian Mintlify pages as API truth.

For the assistant doing things on your behalf (creating a plan, feature, or event), see [Actions](/introduction-8).
