An application in Meridian maps to one Shopify app. Creating it is quick (a name and a hosting size) and you can wire Shopify up afterwards.

Choose the app type

Every new app is public unless you pick otherwise. The create page offers the choice, preselected on Public:
  • Public: destined for the Shopify App Store, with everything the platform offers.
  • Private (a custom app, in Shopify’s terms): for a specific merchant or your own stores. No App Store listing, and the App Store, Plan Builder, usage, CRM, analytics, automations, emails, discounts and affiliates surfaces don’t apply.
The choice isn’t final: switch it at any time from the app’s settings page. Both types are available on every tier and cost the same. See App types.

Identity

A name, an optional description, and a logo (PNG, JPG or SVG, up to 5 MB). These are what your team sees in the organization; the name also feeds the URL for the app.

Hosting size

  • The app included with your subscription is hosted on the subscription’s bundled capacity, at no extra charge.
  • Any additional app picks a hosting size (S, M or L), which sets its baseline capacity for database, bandwidth, logs, build history and the rest. You’re charged the prorated amount for the remainder of the current billing cycle, and can compare the sizes side by side before choosing.
When you add an app to an active subscription, Meridian confirms the prorated charge before taking you to the new app. If the payment provider has finalized the invoice, the confirmation shows the amount charged or being charged. If the invoice is still pending, it links to Billing > Invoices, where the final amount appears. Members with the billing.manage permission also receive an email about the new charge. Reusing an already paid app slot does not create a new charge or send this email. Hosting size isn’t permanent: change it later from the app’s Change hosting page. See Changing hosting.

After creating

The app exists as soon as creation completes. Meridian shows progress while it waits for the subscription update, then provisions the environment and runtime identity in the background. The new app appears in the bottom-left app switcher and your organization’s Apps list without a page refresh. You can search the list by name and sort by clicking the Name or Visibility header: one click orders by that column, a second reverses it, a third returns to the default order. From there:
