Creating one
Creating an organization asks for three things:- Identity: a name (used in URLs and the organization switcher), an optional description, and a logo.
- Billing: a starting subscription. You can create the organization first and pick one later from its Billing page; features and app types stay locked until you do.
- A first app: created with the organization, so you land on something to work on. See Create an app.
The organizations list
Your organizations list shows every organization you belong to, with your membership and role in each. Search it by name, filter it by membership or role, and click the Organization, Membership or Role header to sort it: one click orders by that column, a second reverses it, a third returns to the default order. The sort lives in the URL, so a sorted view can be shared. One organization is active at a time, and switching re-scopes the whole dashboard. Apps, CRM, hosting and billing all follow the active organization. The organization overview
Each organization has a page that gathers what belongs to the organization rather than to an app:- its identity, editable in place,
- its subscription and billing: current tier, next invoice, invoices, change plan,
- its team and roles,
- its sending domain for email,
- its demo mode switch, which swaps the whole organization for a read-only sample account,
- its data export, for anyone with the Data export: Manage permission.
Ownership
Every organization has exactly one owner, who sits above the role system and passes every permission check. Only the owner can transfer ownership or delete the organization, and the owner can’t be removed. Everything else, billing and deletes included, is a permission: admins hold all of them, and a custom role can be given any of them. See Roles and permissions for how access is divided, and Permissions for the full catalog.Exporting your data
You can take everything the organization holds with you at any time: pick Export data on the organization page. It needs the Data export: Manage permission, which owners and admins have by default and which you can give to a member through a role. The export is one zip, saved asMeridian_{organization}_org_export_{date}.zip, with a folder per app:
A
manifest.json at the top lists what went in, including any database that has no backup yet (one created today). Logs, Pub/Sub deliveries, App Store analytics, derived metrics and secrets are not included: secrets can’t be read back, not even by Meridian.
The export is prepared in the background, usually in a few minutes, and the Data export card turns into a Download button when it’s ready. At the same time the owners, and whoever asked for it, get an email with a link that starts the download, and everyone in the organization sees a notice that opens the Data export section of the organization page. Only members with Data export: Manage can download.
The export holds the apps your role reaches. For the owner, and for a role that covers every app, that is the whole organization. For a role limited to some apps, the zip holds only those apps, the card lists them, and only you get the email (there is no notice for everyone). A download is only served to someone whose role reaches every app in the zip, so a member limited to some apps can’t open a whole-organization export, and nobody can open one that holds an app they can’t see. The download itself is a fresh link that works for five minutes, so an old link copied out of the browser stops working. Open the email or the organization page again to download it again.
An export stays downloadable for 7 days, then it is deleted. Start a new one whenever you need a fresher copy. If an export is already being prepared, asking again returns that one instead of starting a second.
When an app is deleted (a cancellation whose paid period ran out, or a free trial past its retention window), Meridian makes the same export scoped to that app before anything is removed, with a dump taken at that moment, and emails the owners the link. That export stays downloadable for 90 days, by members with Data export: Manage whose role reached the app. The in-app notice that the app was deleted goes to the members who could see it, not to the rest of the organization.
The export works even when an app is locked because its trial ended or it has no plan. Locking an app is about payment, never about holding your data. If you can’t reach the dashboard, contact support: we can start the same export for you. The download link goes to the organization’s owners, and Meridian staff never download it.
