Store reinstalls app (app.reinstalled) fires when a store that had uninstalled your app installs it again. A reinstall is a different moment from a first install: the merchant already knows the app, and something brought them back, so it usually deserves its own flow.
When it fires
When a store whose install record is in the uninstalled state authenticates again. Its record returns to installed and this trigger fires instead of Installed.
A store can install, uninstall and reinstall repeatedly; each return fires the trigger again.
A store that reinstalls within a minute or so of uninstalling can authenticate before Shopify’s uninstall webhook reaches Meridian. Its record is still installed at that moment, so the trigger fires when the uninstall arrives instead, right after Uninstalled, and the store stays installed.
What it carries
The store’s own variables, including store_installed_at and store_active_days, useful for telling a store that left last week from one that left last year. No event-specific variables.
Building on it
- Send a “welcome back” email rather than the first-install one.
- Branch on total revenue to treat a returning paying customer differently from a returning trial.
- Clear or reset the onboarding custom field you set on the original install, so your onboarding flow can run again cleanly.
