Subscription approaching capped limit (subscription.approaching_capped_amount) fires when a store on usage-based pricing is nearing the cap it agreed to. Past the cap, Meridian can’t charge for further usage, so this is the moment to ask the merchant to raise it.

When it fires

From Shopify’s app_subscriptions/approaching_capped_amount webhook. Shopify decides when a subscription counts as “approaching”; the cap itself is the capped amount you set on the plan’s usage event terms. The webhook also refreshes the recorded subscription state, so a plan or status change carried alongside it lands in the store’s record too.

What it carries

The store’s variables, plus subscription_plan and subscription_status from the subscription payload.

Building on it

  • Email the merchant that usage is approaching the cap, with what happens if it’s reached. This is the one automation that directly protects usage revenue.
  • Branch on subscription_plan to word it differently per tier.
  • Notify your own team as well, by adding a second send addressed to specific people.
This trigger is about the merchant’s cap on your usage charges, not about your Meridian allowances. For your own plan limits, see Billing and usage.
