A plan’s visibility is its status. Every plan is either a draft or active, and only active plans reach merchants.
The lifecycle
Build and edit a plan as a draft for as long as you like. See Create a plan. Activating it publishes it to Shopify Billing, which is the step that makes it real.
Switching an active plan back to draft hides it from new subscribers. Merchants already on it keep their subscription and their entitlements: Shopify holds the subscription, and retiring your shop window doesn’t cancel it. That makes draft the safe way to withdraw a plan: you stop selling it without touching anyone who bought it.
Deleting a plan is different from hiding it, and the Plan Builder says so before you do it.
What merchants see on the pricing page
Only active plans, rendered by the SDK from the plan definition: name, price, trial, the features included, and any metered events with their usage terms (included quantity, overage rate, monthly cap). Prices are shown in the merchant’s own currency, converted from your configured amounts at subscribe time.
Working out what’s live
The plans list shows each plan’s status alongside its subscriber count, monthly and annual price, and how many are active versus draft, plus MRR and average revenue per subscriber, so “is this plan worth keeping” is answerable on the same screen you’d retire it from. Last modified on October 5, 2026
